Introduction about Jade buddha Temple
Built in the early 20th centry ,the Jade Buddha temple stands amid the urban Spawl of the northwest of Shanghai. The temple treasures two Jade Buddha statues,,hence named Jade Buddha Temple.
It is said that in the 8 th year of Emperor Guangxu’s reign in the Qing Dynasty,Mon Huigen from Putuo Mountain went on a pilgrimage to India.He passed though Tibet and exit from Burma where he was honored with statues of Sakyamuni.On his way back, he left two in shanghai, one in a sitting position and the other in reclining. Posture.With donated funds,he had a temple built at JiangWan in 1918,the temple was moved to the present site.
The Jade Buddha Temple is a medium—sized temple belonging to the Chan sect of Buddihism. It follows Song Dynasty place---type architecture,its yellow walls,upturned eaves,superimposed roofs and pearance and present a rare sight in this booming city.
The complex of temple buildings, covering an area of 8,400 square meters.consists of four halls,namely, the Heavenly King Hall,the Grand Hall,and the Jade Buddha Chamber ,which has a spotless clean floor, doors ,windows,beams and pillars, and all painted with Chinese lacquer.
